Exercise Bikes in the Space Colony Stations or Long-Term Space Flight

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

A proposal has been circulated in an online think tank to put stationary bicycles, which charge batteries about spacecraft, in space colonies and on space bases. One think tanker critical of this idea says it is a stupid idea and will not work because the human body cannot put out enough energy to make it worth while anyway.

These comments were challenged by the designer of the concept who stated; why waste the energy and you have to exercise anyway to stay in top form and shape. What kinds of person wants to waste energy in space?

The critic and think tank member who poo poo’ed the idea stated; “Who I am as a person has nothing to do with how much energy the human body can generate. That figure of 1/3 horsepower (and it is a rounded-off average) comes from years of careful measurement of athletes by scientists. It is not a reflection of my personal characteristics.”

I see, well my experience is a Top athlete at the top of the athletic food chain and I can tell you from Biking from OR to Mexico in six days and running Ultra-Marathons, Triathlons and my track star days that a human body generates a lot of power. Who I am does have to do with the human energy the body can generate. I speak from experience, observation and reality. If you use it right then it does make sense for instance;

You see I know that the human body creates energy and it is simply silly to waste it all. So consider this in 2006.

Anthony Loeff nonprofit worker is reporting software applications for people who are blind

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. However functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. This season volunteer Anthony Loeff is writing about software for visually impaired people There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Therefore, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users.

Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

Almost 5 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output.

Most legally blind people 59 percent do not use computers. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers.

Office Desks – a Space Creating Device

Monday, August 25th, 2008

As many of us are working at our office desks for long periods of time, it is essential to be aware of how much available space you have to work with, to avoid buying a desk that is too small for the requirements that you have to complete your everyday tasks. The office desk should be large be able to accommodate your computer, monitor, keyboard and anything extra you’ll need the space for. Ensure this unit has some form of office storage, for example a set of filling drawers which may mean you don not need to purchase a metal filing cabinet, which means expense and more importantly space, which may be an issue. When purchasing office furniture for the home or office, ensure you use the vertical space as well the traditional floor space to the maximum. Using office screens to give you additional wall space, where you can hang shelves etc, can be a fantastic extra use for storage. Many users when purchasing office chairs for example buy leather office chairs, ensure that you have enough space behind your desk to move back, and that the chair does not over power the room you have allocated the furniture to be in..

Solar Power Can Save Money

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

When fuel prices were low, it was unnecessary to justify the upfront investment of money required to install photovoltaic equipment, solar water heaters and similar equipment. The reason was simple to understand – it would simply take too long to recoup the cost of the equipment in the form of lower energy bills.

The recent rise in energy prices changes this dynamic quite a bit, however. As energy prices continue to go up, the amount of time required to recoup the upfront cost goes down. In addition, a number of state and local tax incentives make it even easier for homeowners to go solar and save money right away.

The dynamics of this economy have now changed though. The costs of installing solar panels is still high, with a typical two kilowatt installation of solar panels from OVR Solar costing at least £10,000 / ($20, 000) in most cases, but special tax incentives and long term energy savings can help homeowners recoup those upfront costs faster than ever before.

Encouragement for our governments is now forthcoming. This tax savings can help eligible homeowners recoup some of the costs of installing solar panels and solar water heating systems up front, in addition to the energy savings they will enjoy down the road.

Any homeowner considering the installation of a solar system should be sure to check with his or her state and city to determine what types of tax breaks are available. It’s sensible to look into what help your local authorities are willing to provide. Just Google it to find out what help is available to you.

Breakeven point for your outlay may seem far away at todays prices – but what about at tomorrows?. However, as the prices for heating oil, gas and other forms of traditional energy continue to soar, so will demand for alternatives

Questionable Practices and Greed in Incentivized Marketing

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Incentivized marketing refers to the practice of creating forced leads by offering incentives to visitors to sign up to third party offers. The variety of sites applying this principle grows daily. It all started not so long ago with condoms, t-shirts, trinkets… Today, offerings are much larger and more appealing, ranging from the over represented Ipod, to new generation gaming consoles, to merchandise worth thousands of dollars, such as large screen plasma televisions.

One of the pioneers of the system, and also amongst the greatest beneficiaries of this new way of marketing has been Gratis Internet, who racked up earnings around the $20 million dollar mark just last year. Dozens have followed suit. Several of these have met with huge profits, opportunistically joining the gold rush at the right time. As these juggernauts battled it out, fair play began to dwindle in the face of greed, as is nearly always the case.

While some companies have resisted the temptation of padding profit margins through questionable practices, many have also been willing to sacrifice any semblance of fair game in their quest for earnings. In this case, the goodwill of participants is being squandered as a natural resource. An un-renewable one.

It used to be that the name of the game was sign up, fill this or that offer, receive a small incentive. So far so good. Escalation brought offer requirements up to compensate for larger gifts or payouts, and in marched the special conditions. It became a lot harder to claim the gifts that are touted as free. Only fair, considering the price of these often reached the hundreds of dollars. It wasn’t long before many large players broke this multi-lateral logic, replacing it with a simpler and well hidden unilateral one, making more money at any cost.

How do you give away a 42 inch plasma screen in exchange for a customer completing a number of sponsored offers that generates under $500 in commissions? You don’t. You include outlandish conditions or unattainable ones, buried deeply, in tiny print somewhere at the bottom of your oft neglected terms and conditions. Goodwill is not reciprocated but consumed, as trust slowly leaks out like oil from a faulty motor.

Fortunately, such blatantly treacherous performances create the opportunity for well-minded individuals and companies to shine through with their ethics and create a loyal following. This takes time, as consumers tend to go for the most immediately appealing proposition first before either withdrawing in disgust or finding at more trustworthy source for their freebies.

Jad Bitar, founder of www.myeasyscripts.com, one of the top providers of scripts to incentivized marketing sites has identified a trend that allows marketers to build this base of users: “Start with a small easily fulfilled gift, help your customers receive it, make it easy instead of hard. Go for trust above all else. It will pay off, as customers submit testimonials and pictures which slowly but surely draw users into a system that has proven that it can deliver on its promises while making marketers what they ultimately seek: profit.”

Volvo 740: Style, Performance, and Luxury

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Volvo vehicles and automobiles are known to have style and power that surpasses every other vehicle found on the streets. Aside from that, Volvo has also been quite affiliated with safety and safety has certainly been part of the manufacturer’s mindset when it comes to crafting and producing new vehicles to introduce to the market. 1998 was the year when Volvo, an automobile manufacturer of commercial vehicles, trucks and buses, was acquired by the Ford Motor Company to become one with its Premier Automotive Group. Although this was so, the original company of Volvo was decades earlier, in 1927, in Sweden.

“Safety cage and crumple zones” concept was what had sparked Volvo’s reputation for safety and security, and all these had started back during the extravagant and colorful ’60s. The “safety cages” would refer to the strong materials that were used where the vehicle’s passengers would also be seated. On the other hand, the “crumpled zones” then referred to that part which would absorb all of the impact that was brought along by collision and crashes. Safety innovations were added in to their vehicle models and the safety list included three-point seatbelts, padded dashboards, the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), and the BLIS system which is a sensor system that alerts the driver when a car enters in the vehicle’s blind spot. Because of this whole safety system that Volvo has introduced and incorporated in their cars and automobiles, Volvo has then started being recognized as the vehicle which aspires for greater safety.

One of the vehicles that Volvo has crafted and manufactured is the Volvo 740. It had a lifespan of approximately a decade which started from the year 1984 up until 1992. The Volvo 740 is actually powered by a range of different engines over the years such as the four-cylinder in-line OHC, 986 cc or 2,316 cc, six-cylinder in-line 2,383 cc Turbo Diesel.

The Volvo 740 SE sedan was introduced in the U.S. for the 1985 model year. It was then a less optioned version of the Volvo 760 model. It was a breath of fresh air for the Swedish auto manufacturer for it was actually then intended to be a midsize car that offered more style, performance, and luxury than the esteemed and honored 240 series cars. It was offered as a four-door sedan, and was known internally as the 744. It also was offered as a five-door wagon which was internally known as the 745. Production had stopped come 1992 although the vehicle’s engine, transmission, chassis, and other important details lived on in the Volvo 940, which was in essence a reskinned 740.

Volvo 740 parts and accessories are available at Volvo Parts – Volvo Auto Parts. The advantage of using Volvo parts is that these are especially designed to work well with Volvo vehicles and thus you are guaranteed performance and maximized workability out of these Volvo parts.

As a former news correspondents for an auto-related websites, Kevin has gathered extensive knowledge and experience in the automotive inddustry. This 34 year old father of three from Pennsylvania is a genuine car lover.

Attract True Love: Are You Dating Half a Man?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I get lots of mail from women who are involved with married or
otherwise attached men. They invariably ask how long they should wait for a guy to leave his wife or girlfriend before giving him the heave-ho.

My answer is always the same: Give the jerk the heave-ho now.
Immediately!

Why any woman would date a man in the hopes that he will eventually leave a wife or girlfriend baffles me. Even if he makes good on his promise, this woman will snare a dubious prize: A creep who is capable of fleeing a relationship as soon as another female turns his head. She’s netted herself a half-man.

In case you’re dating a half-man and kidding yourself into believing his infidelity won’t ever be your problem, ask yourself how you would like it if another woman snatched your man. If he’s “snatchable,” it means he’s unable to commit fully to a relationship, and it will only be a matter of time before you wind up sharing him with someone else.

Women who date errant husbands and boyfriends are poaching other women’s men. It’s wrong. And, as your mother might have told you, wrong actions invariably lead to painful consequences.

If you have the bad fortune to be in this situation and choose to take your chances with Lover Boy, you can be relatively sure:

a) You’ll wind up spending all your Christmases choking on Aunt Hilda’s dry quiche and being subjected to Uncle Charlie’s drooly denture readjustments (while, at the very same time in a Norman Rockwell scene across town, Lover Boy and his wife are joyfully beholding their children tearing open presents under their tree).

Or:

b) You’ll wind up the jittery wife of a man who cut and run on his first wife and children. Trust me; if this scenario pans out, you will find yourself looking over your shoulder every day for the rest of your life. You’d have a much better time with Hilda and Charlie.

Is any guy worth it?

I didn’t think so.

If you’re stuck on a half-man, unstick yourself immediately. Stop taking his calls. Find another route home from work to avoid running into him. If you have to, get another job. Change your phone number. Give him the slip; your happiness and self-respect are at stake.

You deserve a whole man, so hold out for one. Raise your standards for a guy who’s capable of loyalty and true love. He’s out there. I promise.

Make Money Online – Make Money at Home

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Have you ever thought about making or earning money at home, on the internet?

Just imagine, if you’re a morning person you can start work early, or if you’re an evening person, you can stay up late at night and work. Your work schedule is determined by you and not by your employer.

Many people start their business on a part-time basis, in addition to their regular job to see how much they can handle. Over time, when their income reaches a certain level, they simply switch over and go full time to make money at home.

As in a traditional business, it is important to reinvest some of your earnings, so that you compound your earning potential.

Before starting any Internet venture, it is important to know a little about how it is accomplished. Joining a business with a working group of professionals is akin to starting an apprenticeship. Learning from those who are already successful
and duplicating their efforts, is the quickest way forward.

If you desire to make money online, then you need the tools to accomplish your mission. Communications must be open and you must have all the Messenger services and Internet Telephony services installed on your PC.

You must support and be there for the people you sponsor. They chose you and relied upon you to support them through their early months. You can not afford to let them down. They are your future and what you invest in them, in time and expense today, will come back to you in many ways. That is why, to make money online, you need to invest in people.

Starting a business at home is an economical way to start something, which can easily grow into to a giant concern. Application, dedication and ambition are all hallmarks of great future online entrepreneurs. You will not observe these people wasting any sort of opportunity to market their business to anyone with whom they come in contact.

The sharp entrepreneur is armed and dangerous. Business cards at the ready and always looking for new prospects. Honed and skilled because he/she knows that making money online is often attributed to the contacts he/she makes offline.

Now you know the best route to take, the methods that put the successful where they are today and the real investments that you should be applying, to make money online.

For Sale By Owner? Or Lose a Sale By Owner?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Many people tend to think that by hiring a real estate agent, they are losing out on money that they could have saved if they sold their own home. This couldn’t be further from the truth. To often, people put their own houses up for sale and then wait until the right buyer comes along. But how long does that home stay on the market until THAT happens?

The general public is often mistaken about the role of a real estate agent. The agent doesn’t just earn a commission off a purchase or sell of a property, but instead, it is in the best interest of the real estate professional to do everything possible for their client. What this translates to, is the ability of the real estate agent to tap into sales and marketing channels that the average home owner or purchaser could not use.

People who buy or sell properties do not have access to the multi listing services, weekly advertisements in major news outlets (paper, television and radio), and an extended lead network that provides fresh referrals. Instead, a for sale by owner situation hopes for newspaper ads and word of mouth to sell their property.

What’s more persuasive and readily accessible to an immediate buyer?

In my opinion, for sale by owners are doing themselves a disservice by handling the transaction themselves. As I gave the aforementioned reasons, a person will be in a much better position to sell their home if they avail themselves all of the possible resources to do so. These resources are all at the touch of a willing and knowledgeable real estate agent.

So how does a fsbo find the right agent? They should ask their friends and coworkers on who they know that can handle a solid real estate transaction. Word of mouth carries a lot of weight in the real estate world so the fsbo should do their own due diligence and find out which agency and which particular agent to use. Female or male, it all goes to personal preference. Ask for the agent’s background to see how many sales last month they successfully brokered. Ask them what their plan of attack is to sell the property and what various angles they are going to take. And most of all, determine how much of a personality they have. Determination and personality go a long way!
