Aromatherapy Herbs and Essential Oils

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Aromatic herbs are some of the most unusual plant species in the plant kingdom; nothing can be as useful and beneficial as Aromatherapy herbs. Their contribution to the civilization is a fact well recognized.

Aromatic plants are those which contain certain natural compounds called “natural scents.” Most of these critical extracts are obtained from different parts of a plant like leaves, stem, flowers, seeds and roots. Though they are hidden in these parts, they can be extracted by distillation or fractionation processes.

The number of catalogued aromatic herbs exceeds 250, though many of them are not really productive. However, about 100 varieties are known to possess unique compounds that are used as aromatherapy essential oils.

Herbs have a variety of effects including antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, sedative or stimulant properties. By being aware of each plant’s properties and used carefully, man can be relieved of various symptoms or illnesses. In general, oil has the ability to strengthen the immune system, and are detoxifying in nature. Essential oils can be used as preventative treatment; most symptoms can be reduced with regular treatment.

Various herbs and plants that can be used are – Basil, Lavender, Garlic, Aloe Vera, Seaweed, Nettle, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Dandelion and Liquorices. Basil has expectorant and antibiotic/antiseptic properties. Lavender is a relaxant. Garlic is antiseptic, antibiotic and expectorant.

The expectorant properties make garlic excellent for the respiratory system. The juice from a bulb of garlic can be used on cuts and bruises. Rosemary is an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic plant, its uses are various. Tea Tree is an antiseptic and mild disinfectant which aids healing, strengthening the immune system. Dandelion is used to treat kidney or liver disorders. The root stimulates the liver and the leaves act as a diuretic. Liquorices are used as an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and expectorant herb.

Aromatic herbs, due its therapeutic properties, are cherished by many professionals in the world. Hundreds of recipes are researched and chronicled every day, each with different use and application. Carefully selected herbs are chosen to extract essential oils and refined for a long shelf life.

Many herbs can even be grown in containers at home or cottage gardens; the fresh aroma and the sweet essence of flowers and leaves are sources of joy and relaxation for any garden owner. Aromatherapy herbs are known to special plants for special purposes; its organic extracts are all pure and 100% safe for therapeutic uses.

Aromatic oils are eternal and man’s quest for perfection to acquire a pure essential oil is never ending.

Shelves – Travel through Time – Mesmerizing

Bookcases are an inevitable component of any library. Bookcases help in stacking away literature and saving them from wear and tear. A bookcase, also known as a bookshelf, is a furniture piece and has flat shelves to keep literature. These bookshelves sometimes come with glass doors for favorable admission to the contents.

What is a cherry barrister bookcase?

Barristers or lawyers need to make use of several heavy and big books in the course of their practice. the legal journals are costly and lawyers demand to refer them ofttimes. A barrister bookcase is a kind of bookcase specially built for stashing away such massive volumes employed by barristers. These lawyers bookcases are usually created using oak wood, cherry wood in different finishes and tones.

How did individuals store books when barrister bookcases did not exist?

Books were rare in the past, and thence there was no want for a bookcase then. Books used to be handwritten by hand in the past. They were located in little containers by the well-heeled individuals. The reason behind this was the books were costly and could be bought by the affluent class only. these wealthy men utilised these containers to store books.

Soon lot of religious manuscripts and other such books were bought by the wealthy society. Thus the volumes had to be placed within a cupboard. bookcases sold now have these cupboards as ancestors, but dont have doors always.

How were the books placed in these shelves?

These books were not located with a modern approach. The volumes would be located on their sides or with the edge on the forefront. The books used to be closed with a band created of leather, vellum or sheepskin that carried the title of the book. since this band had to be seen, the books were located with edges out.

anybody who liked learning could buy books due to the printing conception.Another contributed benefit of publishing was that the publishing companies published the title on the back of the volume so that the edges were located inwards.

Such cases were made of what cloths?

In the past years, barrister bookcases were made of oak primarily. Other than that, maple, cherry and pine wood were also employed for making a barrister bookcase. A steel barrister bookcase is long-lasting and low on maintenance too. The Bodleian Library at Oxford University homes the oldest bookcases. they were kept in the library in the sixteenth century.

using tiny lozenges covered in fretwork frames, Chippendale and Sheraton designed lovely bookcases. These bookcases indeed contributed to the elegance of the room.

Shifts In the Bookcases.

Isnt it great to pass into the past times of a barrister bookcase, which was once just a bookshelf?

Overstressed Or Tired?

Our culture is in overdrive and it’s a challenge not to get run over. If we feel that we are in charge at the wheel, it’s a challenge to keep the energy balance in our favor. We need to be sure that energy boosters outweigh energy drainers and that the sheer quantity of what we take on stays in check.

This article is about keeping your energy balance in the positive. First, we’ll remind ourselves about well-known energy boosters and energy drainers, then we’ll talk about how boosters can become drainers. Finally, we’ll talk about energy management–how to be masters of our energy rather than victims of circumstance.

What are energy boosters? Energy boosters are actions that create an overall positive energy balance. In other words, after we perform energy boosting activities we have more energy. Some obvious energy boosters are:

* eating healthy foods and supplements (especially lean proteins and fresh fruits and vegetables),

* drinking sufficient water to stay hydrated (on average 64 fluid ounces per day depending upon body weight),

* getting sufficient sleep (for most people 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours are required on a regular basis),

* moderate exercise (aerobic exercise, strength training, and stretching in varying combinations depending on your goals, 3-7 times per week)

* meditation (15-30 minutes a day reduces tension holding patterns, increases circulation and oxygen uptake, and increases positive brain chemistry, among many other benefits)

* doing what we love ( when we participate in activities we enjoy, we increase our enthusiasm and energy level)

What are energy drainers? Energy drainers consume more energy than they provide. We feel more tired when we do these things consistently or over a long period of time. Some common energy drainers are:

* eating excess sugars and starchy carbohydrates (excess sugars and carbs put us on an energy rollercoaster)

* drinking excessive amounts of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages (these lead to de-hydration)

* smoking (reduces oxygen uptake, among other negative effects)

* insufficient sleep (our body needs sleep for physical, emotional, and mental recovery)

* being sedentary (the body is made to move and requires physical activity for oxygen and nutrient delivery, toxin removal, and to function properly)

* overworking (non-stop and excessive activity leads to stress and adrenal exhaustion)

* doing activities because we feel forced to, not because we enjoy them.

How boosters become drainers: When we do anything in excess, it can become a drainer instead of a booster. If we overexercise, overeat, oversleep, or overdo activity without breaks or rest, these activities can exhaust us rather than energize us. The key then is to become a master of managing our energy.

Energy management begins when we acknowledge that we are in charge of our lives. We shift from viewing ourselves as victims of the circumstances that surround us to seeing ourselves as active participants in the creation of our lives. We are largely responsible for our life circumstances and we can create a positive energy balance by the choices we make. We need to prioritize. Only allow things on your schedule that are trully of value to you and the care of those around you. Reduce or eliminate anything that is not a priority or an energy booster.

The key to avoiding overstress and fatigue is to
become the master of your energy,
rather than the victim of circumstances.

Take a look at your day and your weeks in terms of energy balance. Are you including some or all of the energy boosters listed above? Are you limiting your energy drainers? Are you conscious of taking appropriate breaks? Is there anything that is not a priority in your life that you are giving too much energy too? Are you passively accepting negative circumstances, rather than actively creating what you want?

One way to make a positive change is to define a daily practice with one of the energy boosters. The Power of Practice website (http:www.thepowerofpractice.com) has a free Daily Practice Log (link is in the left-hand column on the home page) on which you can define and track this for yourself. If you are interested in learning a daily meditation practice my Learn Qigong Meditation Program is available at http://www.learnqigongmeditation.com.

Reiki, a Powerful Tool for Mind, Body and Spirit

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Nowadays, the interest in alternative medicine is growing rapidly. Among the vast number of healing modalities available, we find that Reiki has become increasingly popular around the world, especially since science has verified the existence of the universal life energy that Reiki is based on. Reiki is a powerful holistic healing system; it heals on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

So what is Reiki? The term Reiki is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. It is a very simple and easily acquired healing method that uses universal life energy, the energy which permeates our entire universe and all living things. This universal life energy is called qi or chi in China, prana in India, and ki in Japan and this is where the Reiki name derives. It circulates throughout the body and in an energy field surrounding the body. This energy field, long been known to healers and mystics, is now verified by scientists. Recent scientific experiments have verified the existence of this life force energy. Scientists have proven that everything in the universe, at a sub-atomic level, is made up of energy. Health is the harmonious flow of life energy, while imbalances in this flow, due to unhealthy habits or negative emotions lead to illness. So this subtle energy is responsible for the processes in our body on all levels: physical, emotional and mental. Reiki channels universal life energy through the hands of the practitioner into the body of the receiver and balances the energy flow in the body.

Reiki is a holistic healing system, meaning that it addresses the whole person: the physical, mental, emotional and the spiritual levels. The body is not made up of isolated parts to be fixed, like a machine; there are no separate parts, but an amazing web of energy, and in order to truly return to health, all the levels of our being must be addressed.

Reiki works on four different levels:

The physical level: Reiki strengthens the immune system. It helps in relieving pain. It balances and harmonizes the function of glands and organs. It heals by opening the blocked energy channels, the meridians, and balances the chakras. When performed regularly, toxins are removed from the body and good health and well-being is maintained.

The emotional level: One of the greatest healing benefits of Reiki is stress reduction and relaxation, which strengthens the immune system and maintains health. People who are depressed or do not feel emotionally balanced begin to feel more stable and relaxed because Reiki clears energy blockages and suppressed emotions.

The mental level: Through giving yourself Reiki, you obtain more clarity and find it easier to overcome obstacles and achieve goals. You become more positive and reach a different outlook on life. You feel more empowered.

The spiritual level: Reiki enables you to go deeper within and feel more connected to your higher self. It aids meditation, increases intuition and provides limitless benefits of spiritual growth.

Reiki is so simple yet so powerful, and this is what makes it a unique healing system that anyone can learn, because it does not require any previous experience or special ability. The Benefits of Reiki are infinite. It allows you to take an active part in your own wellness, and accelerates your growth on all levels.

How Sesame and Sunflower Seeds Can Relieve Constipation

Sesame seeds for constipation

Using sesame and sunflower seeds for constipation make a lot of sense. If you like to eat seeds then this is once way you can add more fiber, vitamins and minerals to your diet and at the same time reduce your constipation.

Maoshing Ni, Ph.D., C.A. and Cathy McNease, B.S., M.H. in their book, The TAO of Nutrition,1987, recommends using black sesame seeds for chronic constipation. Here’s what he says,

“Grind black sesame seeds into a meal by using a small coffee grinder.
Mix with dark honey into a small ball.
Eat one three time a day dipped in rice wine.”

Black sesame seeds also provide nutrition and action on the liver, intestines, kidney, and blood.

You can also prepare a sesame seeds soup with brown rice.
Soak 10 parts of sesame seeds with 1 part brown rice in distilled water
After they are soft, about an hour, pour out the water grind them in a small food grinder to produce liquid. Strain the remaining liquid to remove coarse particles.

Dilute liquid with distilled water and add some honey.
Cook on low heat until liquid becomes syrupy
Drink around two cups to relieve constipation with in hour or so.

And also, peas and brown sesame seeds – help to lubricate the intestinal walls. This makes it easier for fecal matter to move through your colon.

Sunflower seeds for constipation

Sunflower seeds promote regularity. Use them raw shelled and unsalted every day. They contain omega-6 fatty acid just like olive oil. You can use them grounded and add them to your morning smoothie, 1-2 teaspoons, or to your homemade salad dressing

Add them to your salad
Add them to your morning cereal

Here’s a sunflower drink you can make.

Take 1-2 tablespoons of sunflower seeds. Grind them in a coffee grinder. Add them to a cup of boiling water. Sweeten this mixture with honey, maple syrup, or blackstrap molasses. Drink this combination morning and night to help you with you constipation.

When you use grounded sunflower seed to add to your salad dressing your can also use sesame seeds at the same time. Use both of these seeds and experiment and find out how you like preparing them and eating them.

Zip It Up

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Anyone who has seen the movie’ Honey I shrunk the kids’ can imagine how useful compression can be. Compression, which has become anonymous with Zip files work off the same idea only with a (add your joke here)’slightly’ different technology.

You will find a lot of data compression programs in use today and some are easier and have better features than others, so in this article I will talk about compression in general, but may through in a couple of examples for comparison.

The first thing you need to know is that there can be more than one compressed file; you can have an archive (a multiple of files). The main benefit of this is that the user can:

* Save valuable disk space

* Can send and receive files on the internet quicker

* Speeds up your processor

* Depending on the file compression program can reduce files as much as 90%

The user should also be aware that files can only be opened with the original compression program that compressed it. Think of this as a form of protection, if you will since this is like an encrypted file or archive. Adding a password is another way to insure files are safe from prying eyes and some compression programs let you do this at any level of compression or decompression with the associated commands (update, move, feshien, add). Only individual files can be password protected not whole archives.

Ever since the first personal computers (PC’s) came about people found how easy it is to load up there drives with programs and downloads that eat up much of there memory. That’s why developers created data compression programs in the first place, to free up hard drive space and increase processor speed.

There are a lot of data compression programs and they are not exactly alike because they use different data compression algorithms. One popular program, for example looks for repeating words or phrases and assigns them there own character or number value.

A lot of users don’t fully understand the more advanced features of their data compression programs so they are not really getting there full value. Syntax command lines are a good example of this confusion. There are four basic commands in syntax (the shape of a command line);

* Command: The task to be preformed like add, delete or update.

* Archive: the name of the archive.

* Switch or Option: lets user specify a file option like adding file directories for compression.

* File: name of file(s) to be processed.

A user can compress files four basic ways:

Add files to archive – old files with same name are overwritten.

Move files to archive – upon compression old files are deleted.

Update files – makes sure you have the most recent file version.

Freshen files – almost like update, seeks out the last modified file and adds it to archive.

The above commands have there basic functions but can do other things. Ex. the update & add commands can create and compress files and the Freshen command can create a new archive.

There are only a couple of data compression programs out there that give the user more than one compression method – PKZIP AND ARJ.

PKZIP has what they call an imploding method and a shrinking method; without going into great detail imploding uses less memory (90k), and is very through. This is the default setting. Shrinking is fast but uses a bit more memory (128k), works great for smaller files.

ARJ gives the user more options for data compression. It uses multiple settings (m1 to m4),

This is a tradeoff of prosessing speed versus packing dentisy. There are 2 more options available here but test runs show no significant change in time or compression.

Even with experienced compression users, extracting compressed files with a newer version of a data compression program may prove difficult, so programmers created self extracting files (SFX) to enable beginners to easily use compressed files. This small program may be part of the original program or added after as a separate program.

I realize some of this may sound confusing and for that I apologize, and after all, people will compresses data using only the basic functions and be happy and content because it suits there present needs. In conclusion you can tell there are many options available when using any data compression program and it is well worth the time (got time on the week end?) and effort to learn some of the advanced features if you want to save some serious space on your hard drive.

Too Many Choices in Home Gyms? Look for this…

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

With so many darn home gyms obtainable and abundance of advertizing how in the world is someone suppose to determine what home gym to buy. If you are anything like myself you’ve in all likelihood bought several craze products believing that you’ll use them, merely to recognize that you really merely purchased a machine to hang your dirty garments upon. I’ve learnt the hard way that someone should look for particular characteristics. The first one I will talk about is durability.

It’s real that the choice and variety in home gyms is nearly too much to handle. I can for sure understand why people might just think to purchase whatever home gym is pushed or seems good. Surely, esthetics is part of how we may pick out a home gym. All The Same, looks should be the least criteria to use.

Home gyms come varied sizes. Notwithstanding, when searching at home gyms I think the first criteria ought to be durability. If a gym is not durable then, of course, you will discover yourself in the market place for a new home gym soon after purchasing the original. However, worse than that is the fact that psychologically when you are working out you realize the gym is flimsy and inadvertently hold back on workouts with intensity. Intensity is a primary factor in having a great workout.

There you have it, In my humble opinion the first criteria to apply when looking at which home gym to purchase is durability. There are many home gyms on the marketplace, but not necessarily all are planned with quality. They might work, they may even work well, however, what good is it if they break in 6 calendar months.

Stumble Upon Terrific Investment Opportunities By Purchasing Real Estate Overseas

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

More and more individuals are purchasing property in a foreign country as they see a great amount of reservations in the stock markets. While not each and every investor has what is necessary to procure a property in another country, its still an exceptional idea of growing your finances. When looking for a real estate in Europe, it is critical to identify where exactly to acquire. People can obtain the needed finances for real estate overseas from countries with property tax benefits. If you are looking for a great investment then why not take a look at property for sale in America.

Cyprus is currently an excellent country to invest. The main reason for this is that (according to newest financial reports) 2008 it is the 1st time in the past 10 years or more that real estate values have reduced. For example, prices of homes have gone down by twenty-three percent in the last quarter alone, and by thirty-one percent in the past 12 months. Thus with real estate prices going down & financial lending being more harder to find, ready cash investors are taking pleasure in a win-win state of affairs.

Whether purchasing property locally or in a foreign country, time is of the essence. Just like acquiring stocks & shares and other assets, you ought to know when the overseas property can truly be acquired. This is critical since the more time it takes to buy; the more and more likely it will be that the price of maintenance, developments & repairs will increase.

In leasing investment property, you need to have a great credit position. This way, there is an outstanding prospect of getting borrowers to approve loans to procure the real estate. Moreover with first-rate credit rating, there is the likelihood that the interest rate will likely be considerably lower.

Procuring real estate has the possibility to be a tremendous choice as an investment. What you are recommended to do is to make a plan starting with time frames and an outstanding credit position. With the whole thing in place, you ought to be able to acquire the investment you desire.

Graduation Tassels

Graduation tassels are the strips of cords that can be seen hanging from the top of a mortarboard, commonly known as a graduation cap. These tassels may also be known as liripipes, which refer to a historical part of clothing that meant a long tail of clothing. In this case, it is the ‘tail’ that is found on a cap. In many countries, it is a graduation custom for the side in which the graduation tassels
can be the kept by the students after they have graduated as souvenirs. Traditionally, the tassels worn by graduates were black in color or represented the color of the specific academic institutions such as colleges and universities or the discipline. The tassels were worn one at a time. In recent times however, one can find tassels of many colors and in different styles.

For instance one can find graduation tassels made from one cord, two cords of different colors, and any other combination one may desire. The graduate can also wear more than one tassel. Some academic institutions have created a practice which has since become a tradition whereby the students on graduating move the tassel from one side to the other. The students can do this in unison or as individuals. In some learning institutions, the tassels are attached to shoes of the graduates during the graduation ceremonies.
