Poker Terms: ‘Drawing Dead’

There is nothing in poker a player wants less in a online poker hand than to be drawing dead. Drawing dead means that you have no cards that can come on the turn or river that will give you the best hand over your opponent, and that you will lose the pot no matter what happens. Though the remaining community cards are still dealt out to the table, they are essentially irrelevant, as they will not effect the outcome of the hand. An example of drawing dead would be, say, you are holding pocket threes and the flop comes 3 3 9. If your opponent has any overpair, such as KK or AA, then the only way he can win the pot is to catch running K K or A A to make a better four of a kind that you. If he does not catch a K or A on the turn, it is then irrelevant what the river is. He is drawing dead. In less extreme examples, if on the turn you had AK and your opponent had AJ and the board read A K 9 2, there is no poker online card your opponent could hit to win the pot, and he is drawing dead.
